Several theories were made about Justin Timberlake's performance in the Superbowl LII halftime show. Was he going to address nipplegate? Was Janet Jackson going to make an appearance? Was a Prince hologram going to be used? No one expected Ryan McKenna to make headlines for looking at his phone while JT performed beside him- literally. McKenna should not be made fun of; he is a teen who has awkward social skills just like the rest of us. I give the memes about him a 3.3 because while they are funny, they do not entertain me as much as I would like them to.

The "Trumpet Boy" image has no real explanation on where it came from other than its time stamp of January 18, 2018. I give it a 5.4 due to its comedic value.
Watch out Pizza Rat, Shower Rat has stolen the spotlight. On January 27, 2018, Facebook user Jose Correa uploaded a video which featured a rat taking a shower in a human-like manner. Many swooned over the cuteness of the rat while others were skeptical of its actions. According to several rat behavioral specialists, the rat was trying to remove something from its body. One specialist theorized that Shower Rat was trying to rid of the soap and not a deadly toxin, calming many social media users. I give Shower Rat a 5.4.
"Burger King Foot Lettuce" was a meme around July 2012 but has made a reappearance after the video by Top15s included above covered the issue. Burger King has since fired the employee. I give this meme a 7.5 based on the voice of the Youtuber in the new video.
The "0riginal vs. Un-tumblrized" meme refers to a series of exploitable, photoshopped comparison charts in which one side shows a character, and the other, “un-tumblrized” side shows a sexier interpretation of that character. The word “un-tumblrized” implies that a character was originally designed to appeal to the Tumblr community, which has a reputation for demanding media representation for many races, gender expressions, and body types. After an image began circulating of a comparison chart between the female character Tank Penny from Fortnite and an “un-tumblrized” version which imagines her skinnier, whiter, and in skimpier clothing, people began to parody the format with various humorous comparisons.
Usually racists are pretty dumb human beings- hence why they are racists. The featured dumb*ss this month is teen Cory Carnley. Carnley posted the photo shown above along with the caption "MFW I report an illegal who goes to my school to ICE" to the subreddit /The_Donald. Obviously, this guy is grown enough that he knows that this wrong; however, most likely due to assimilating to toxic, far-right views common in the corners of social media, Carnley truly believes he is doing America a favor. Before I get into my opinion of our president, I rate this man a -7.
The "But Can You Do This?" spawned when Youtuber Pewdiepie responded to criticism towards the price of his chair created in collaboration with Clutch Chairz. His chair, priced at $399, is probably not worth that much, but because "It Can Do This," Pewdiepie believes it is well worth the cost. I love the many variations of this meme, but it is dying out quickly. I give it a 5.6.
The "Government Agent Watching Me" meme is when a social media user jokes about engaging in conversation with a government agent spying on them through either their webcam or smartphone. Rather than sinister, the relationship between the agent and the user is usually sympathetic and emotionally supportive. This series of memes is incredibly relatable because I am a major government skeptic; I give these memes a 6.7.
Although this meme truly debuted in 2007, it has only recently come into the social media spotlight. The original Connect Four box cover art created in 1974 has been reimagined several times throughout the past weeks. I find these memes HILARIOUS and rate them 8.9.
On January 16th, 2018, YouTuber Cheer Extreme published a video titled “Senior Elite SOH 2018 Backstage, Performance & Awards.” In the video, a cheerleader named Ryan Cummings makes the “smug” smile at the beginning of a routine. There isn't much to note about this meme other than the obvious entitlement that most competitive cheerers and dancers possess. I give this meme a 2.3 because it isn't that interesting or funny.
