The word "yeet" has two origins: one referring to the yeet dance move and the other referring to the action. First, the yeet dance was introduced around February 2014, making it approximately four years old. The dance was created when Marquis Trill uploaded a video of his friend "yeet-ing;" however, Trill credits several other people for the creation of it. Soon after, rapper Quill made a song titled "yeet" and the Facebook page "Yeet Dance" became popular. What really brought the dance move into its spotlight was a vine uploaded by Jasmine Nicole featuring a student performing a yeet. Several thousand images and videos spawned from the vine and the yeet had become popular; however, in today's culture, the term "yeet" is more commonly used as an action. Yeet-ing something involves a mighty throw in a direction away from the original yeet-er. This phrase originated in July of 2014 when an unidentified viner uploaded a video of her friend yeet-ing an empty can down a school hallway. Ever since then, yeet-ing is often compared to throwing an object with great force. Check the Urban Dictionary definition for further explanation. I give both "Yeet" memes a 3.5 because although slightly comical, they are not anything to be excited about.
